Did Jesus Break the Land Curses by Our Ancestors?

Juli, I have a question for you.

I was talking to a friend of mine and she said there is very little that is happening in most African churches ( ex: ;Nigerian, South African, Zimbabwean etc churches) as far as the African land is concerned. She said the land of Africa has a lot of curses placed on it by our ancestors and we need intercessors to pray about the land and it’s deliverance from these curses. She says there is a lot of poverty, feminine, wars, AIDS, diseases, hunger etc in Africa but there a lot’s of churches in Africa as well as many prayerful Christian in Africa but the is still a disparity. She says most African do well when they leave their country.

Now, I told her that we do not have to worry about the land as Jesus came to die for man not land so any curses on the land are not of concern but we should concern ourselves on winning souls, what Jesus died for.

However, I spoke to someone who said yes this is true the land has to be delivered from the curses of our ancestors and she quoted the following to me: Romans 8:19 - Creation Waits for the Sons of God to be Revealed… She said the land is under curse and needs deliverance after the sons of God have been revealed.

I said to her, the land was cursed when Adam fell but everything was redeemed when Jesus died and rose again victoriously conquering the devil and his cohorts.

But she said no, only the sons of God can deliver the land – which she calls falls under the creation. Stating that creation means trees, birds, animals the sun the moon, the stars etc as they are creation , all are waiting.

The question I have is can you address the verse Romans 8:19 - Creation Waits for the Sons of God to be Revealed … for me please. Also if you can let me know if the land is cursed by our ancestors rituals and how we can have the land delivered from these curses.

Please help me to understand this.

I know for sure that I am delivered from any curses as I am born again and I do not need any deliverance rituals. Am I correct in saying this. I am concerned about my children if they have curses from their father or my side of the family and how I can have them delivered form this. They are also born again

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards, Doreen

Hello Doreen,

Thanks for contacting me, this is an important question and I will try to answer it thoroughly for you.

Your understanding is correct. Jesus undid everything that happen with the fall of man. What sin took FROM you Jesus redeemed FOR you.

Like you said, the land was cursed in the Fall and subjected to decay because of the effects of sin. However, through Jesus' redemptive work on the cross, he didn't just reconcile mankind to himself, but he reconciled ALL things. I John 3:8 says that the reason Jesus came was to destroy the works of the devil. In other words, he came to completely undo everything that Satan did.... so if sin corrupted creation, then creation was part of Jesus' redemption. Sin affected more than humanity at the fall, sin polluted God's creation, sin affected the natural world and the entire universe. However, Hebrews 1 says that Jesus provided the purification for sins as proven by His seated position in heaven (Hebrews 1:3) This purification includes everything... not just mankind’s sin but the restoration of everything as if it had NEVER happened in the first place.

In the same way that our spirits long to be with Christ in the physical sense, all of creation groans and longs to be liberated and brought into that freedom as well (Romans 8:22). Creation is waiting expectantly for the sons and daughters of God to be reveled because this means that the promise spoken to Adam and Eve in the garden during the curse HAS COME to pass.;"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel" (Genesis 3:15). Jesus came to get it all back! The revelation of his children shows that this has been accomplished not because we need to deliver it rather because Jesus already did.

Just as we are currently waiting for the redemption of our bodies, creation is waiting for the redemption of its physical body. The revealing of God's children means that this is fast approaching. Paul says,;"the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time" (Romans 8:22). If the birth pains have started then it is just a matter of time until we receive our final bodily redemption. This is good news!

As far as your question on Romans 8:19 goes, remember Jesus is the Son of God and He is the firstborn of ALL CREATION (Colossians 1:15), and He delivered everything including the land... PLUS His name is ABOVE any curse that has ever been given (Philippians 2:9-11). Then as believers we are also raised and seated with Him in the heavenly realm (Ephesians 2:6).

So it's a done deal, however we also live in a real world and experience things contrary to scripture, so unless we know and have a real understanding of what it says (working knowledge)... we will not live in the full freedom that Jesus purchased for us. The previous verse, Romans 8:18 says, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in uswhich means through knowledge and understanding God’s glory will be manifested in a real world experience... So, I think the answer to your question is a matter of understanding our authority as believers. These things are done and finalized in heaven, but manifestation in the physical comes through the sons and daughters of God. And we come from the vantage point of the finished work of the Cross. (Read Ephesians 6:10-18... it says stand firm).

You, as a born again believer have the power to bless the land you in live in (Proverbs 18:21) which carries more weight than an ancestor who might have cursed it. And you also have the right to bless your children, your livestock, your job, your family, etc.... Any ancestral curses are broken through Jesus. As a believer you can use your authority to experience it in the physical world (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18). In your culture these curses are a prevalent thing, but having a good understanding of what Jesus did and standing in that position you will experience freedom in it and teach others to do the same.

Don’t worry about your children either, curses are broken over them, don’t give any weight to it. Check out Psalm 91... it will bless you!

I hope this answers your questions.
In Christ,
Juli
