Summary of the Book of 2 Thessalonians
Paul once again writes to the believers in Thessalonica to encourage them as they were suffering trials and persecution. This church was steadfast in love and faith. Paul prays that God would count them worthy of His calling and fulfill every good purpose and act of faith. He prays that the Lord Jesus would be gloried in them.
2 Thessalonians 1 - Thanksgiving for Faith and Perseverance
2 Thessalonians 1 opens with Paul rejoicing and thanking the Lord for the increasing love and faith of this church. They continually persevered through the persecution and trials they faced. In this, Paul encourages us that God will make things right when Christ Jesus is revealed from heaven. On that day, He will punish those who do not know God or obey the gospel. And when He comes to be glorified, our faces will reflect His glory and we will marvel at Him.
2 Thessalonians 2 - Stand Firm in the Truth
2 Thessalonians 2 reminds not to let anyone deceive us about the coming of the Lord Jesus, saying this day has already come. Paul reminds this church of the truths he taught while he was with them. Paul praises God for them and encourages them to stand firm and hold to the teachings passed on to them.
2 Thessalonians 3 - Request for Prayer
2 Thessalonians 3 winds down the letter by asking for prayer, that the message of the Lord will spread rapidly. And Paul prays to be delivered from wicked and evil men. He ends the letter with final instructions about working hard and not giving in to idleness. He reminds them that they worked hard among the church, paying their own way and instructs them to do the same. He finishes with a pray of peace for the church.
This letter is written to encourage and give instructions for us to live by while waiting for the Lord’s return. May you be blessed and inspired as you read and study the book of 2 Thessalonians.
