To Present The Word of God in Fullness—Colossians 1:25
“I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness” (Colossians 1:25)
One of the most amazing gifts God gave to the Church was the Apostle Paul. His ministry was nothing less than a wonderful blessing for the body of Christ. This is evident in his statement of being commissioned by God to present a full and complete revelation of Christ and His Word to the Church.
He was so focused on this mission that priority in this letter is to express the revelation of Christ. It had been hidden throughout the ages but revealed to the Church through the revelation Paul received (Galatians 1:11-12; Colossians 1:26-27). This is why his prayer throughout the entire letter, is that we would be filled with God’s knowledge and understand it with the insight and wisdom that only the Spirit of God gives (Colossians 1:9). In fact Paul mentioned this several times…
“...We have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Colossians 1:9b).
“We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ” (Colossians 1:28).
“...so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:2b-3).
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
“...and pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should” (Colossians 4:3-4).
Paul took his life’s mission very seriously and we are blessed because of it.
Faith Comes By Hearing
The prophet Hosea prophesied, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). The greatest danger the Church of God faces today is ignorance to the Word of God, and yet, the remedy is very simple. “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). It is our job to receive the precious words of God, to take them in and let the Spirit of God reveal and bring understanding to us. Faith comes by hearing. It comes by hearing God’s message as given in the scriptures. His words and promises are the building blocks of the faith we need for success in this world. If God’s people are destroyed because they lack knowledge, then imagine what would happen if we had the revelation of Christ that Paul gave his life to bring to us? Jesus said, not even the gates of hell could prevail against that! (Matthew 16:16-20).
Now Is the Time for Action
Today is a great day to start drinking in the Word of God. I pray that you are able to find time to quiet your mind, read from God’s love letter to you and for His Spirit to speak understanding into your heart. May you enjoy a sweet time with the Lord. “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified” (Acts 20:32).
