Chose to Offer Your Body to the Lord—Romans 6:12-13

"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness" (Romans 6:12-13)

Perception changes everything. We act and live out of what we perceive to be truth. Biblical truths are absolute, but unless we identify them as truth we will not live by them. That is why understanding the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ should take priority in your life. The difference between living a victorious Christian life and a defeated Christian life does not depend upon God. He has done absolutely everything imaginable for us to experience this victory each and every day of our life. The victorious Christian life comes by knowing what has been provided for you and choosing to operate in it. That is why we need a perspective change rooted in the scriptures for transformation to occur in our lives.

In today's passage this transformation comes when we understand that we have the power to choose how our mortal bodies are used. The fact is, that Jesus broke the power of sin over our lives. This took place in our spirit and manifests in our flesh when we renew our minds to this absolute truth. The old nature only has power over us if we choose to give it power. In the same way, our new nature only manifests in our flesh if we let it. The choice is ours but Jesus already provided it. When we understand this, then our outlook of circumstances change. And with this new perspective change, we will experience new life in every aspect of our being.

When we understand that sin has no control over us then based on this revelation we will change. A perspective change dictates how we act based on what we know to be true. Once when understand our new nature then we will choose to live according to it. Paul teaches us in today's passage that since we have been freed from sin, choose to offer your bodies to the Lord for his use. This takes faith. Faith is an action based on what we believe. Faith is substance ( Hebrews 11:1 ). It takes faith to believe that we are freed from sin and operate that way. The Amplified Bible puts it this way, "Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness." ( Romans 6:13 Amp ) If we believe we have been release from sin, then why would we continue to operate as though we were in bondage to it. However, if we know that we now are alive in Christ and freed from the dominion of darkness, then we will choose to operate as agents of the kingdom of light. If we won't give sin any control or place in our lives then our body will not be subject to it.

Our lives and bodies can be instruments of righteousness based on whether or not we offer it for use. They have been deemed holy and set apart for special use. So understanding this will open unlimited possibilities to bless the kingdom of God operating in His behalf. Paul urges us in Romans 12, to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to the Lord, stemmed from a revelation of His great mercy. Today, I pray that you understand this truth with your sprit and start operating in faith accordingly to His perfect will for your life. With this you will experience freedom in every way imaginable. Amen

Consider Yourself Alive in Christ—Romans 6:11

"In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus" (Romans 6:11)

Romans 6 is a beautiful expose of how Jesus broke the power of sin over our lives. Through studying this passage we can see how completely free we are from our old nature. This of course took place in our born again spirit. So the trouble comes when we experience sins residual effects, left over from of our previous nature still operating in our lives. It can cause a little confusion unless we understand how to operate in our freedom. It is easy to get stuck and frustrated with what we see in the natural realm unless we know how to overcome it. Paul gives us the key to unlocking this freedom in our physical bodies in today's passage.

Paul masterfully teaches us that in the same way that Jesus is dead to sin, consider yourself after the same manner. Consider yourself completely freed and delivered from sin. Your emancipation happen the moment you were born again. So now just consider it complete. That is step one, settling this in your heart once for all . Make a decision to believe God. Put His word and His seed into your heart and let it grow.

Secondly, do not focus on being dead to sin, just consider it done. There's a difference. If I focus on being dead to sin, then I am focusing on self and where I am failing in those areas. If I focus on the areas that the lingering effects of the old nature are still apparent, then I am actually strengthen it's power against me. However, If I am considering it done, then when I see the something that resembles my old sin nature operating in my life, I can disregard it as contrary to who I really am and subsequently not affording it any power over me. It is broken unless I give it power, but renewing my mind to the fact that it is done away with strengthens me to operate in faith.

Lastly the most important step to overcoming sin in our natural bodies is to focus on being alive with Christ. This is key, you cannot be swayed by something you have no investment in. If we focus on living in Christ then everything flows out of that. Jesus said in Matthew, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" ( Matthew 6:21 ) He knew that a house divide cannot stand. If we focus on God and what pleases him, then our lives become an extension of that. Change does not come by a decision or work, change comes from the heart. Jesus said in Luke 6:45, "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks." ( Luke 6:45 ) In our heart [spirit] is where the good things of Christ reside. So by focusing on the Lord, those things will spill out into our lives and change will come quickly. The effects of our previous nature will disappear because our lives will solely reflect who we are inwardly in our spirits. So focus on Christ and being alive with Him. Focus on what pleases Him and you will experience outward change with absolutely no work. Today, may this bless you as you seek the Lord and experience newness of life overflowing from your born again spirit. Amen!
