“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7)

Amazingly, the Christian life continues the same way it begins, by faith in Jesus. Our entire lives will be successful if we live out of our union with Christ. In this passage, the apostle Paul gives three practical ways describing how we are to live continuously in Christ.

Rooted & Built Up in Christ

First we are to be rooted and built up in Christ. Imagine a large oak tree that can withstand the wind, rain, snow and even seasons of drought; it is able to flourish because of a strong root system. The roots give it stability and the means to acquire nutrients and moisture from the ground. What you see above ground is only a fraction of the tree; the most important part of the tree remains underground.

“I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is” (Colossians 2:4-5)

Jesus is the central message; not just of the Bible but of the entire Universe. The most dangerous idea that one can embrace is any message that dethrones Jesus from Him supreme spot in the Universe.
