The Culmination of What Humans Became—Romans 1:31
"they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless" (Romans 1:31)
Today we reach the culmination of what humans became because they did not retain the knowledge of God from the beginning. Paul said that 'they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless...' If you've ever been around someone who displays these qualities then you know that they are completely self-centered and self-focused and there is no room for God or His way.
God never desired for it to be this way, in fact he created us to be in harmony and relationship with Him. Sin crept in and stole that reality and replaced it with all the evil that is so prevalent today. All of this started because we did not know God as He originally intended.
"Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless" ( Romans 1:28-31 ).
All of these things take place in the heart. Born into this world and into sin, these things abound. Jesus was talking with His disciples in Matthew and explained to them that what comes from the heart is what makes a man unclean or unrighteous. ( Matthew 15:19-20 ) Because out of the heart comes evil thoughts. The heart is where corruption starts. When our hearts are against God from the beginning then that is what comes out.
Fortunately for us, God has provided a way to escape the corruption of this world and the corruption in our hearts. He sent Jesus to fully redeem that which was stole in the garden. He redeemed mankind from the kind of life listed above. Colossians 2 says, "When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross." ( Colossians 2:13-15 ) Today it is my prayer that you have accepted the free gift Jesus offers and that you fully realize how free of this corruption you are. I pray that the life lived because of it is abundant in His grace.
