Natural vs. Unnatural—Romans 1:26

"Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones" ( Romans 1:26 )

Do you ever wonder why sin is so prominent in today's society? Every year sin becomes more acceptable and more blatant than before. There is nothing new under the sun, the same sins and abominations exist, however our society has normalized them and incorporated them into everyday life.

Paul says that this has been the case from the beginning. Humankind exchanged the truth of God for a lie, so God gave them over to the desires of their hearts. This was not the plan from the start, but God does not dictate our choices in life.

From the beginning God created male and female and instituted marriage before the fall of mankind. Eve was given to Adam in the garden. Genesis 3:24 says, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. God gave us the incredible gift of marriage. He gave it to bless us and provide the platform with which to multiply and procreate. This was instituted between male and female. This was His design from the beginning.

However, sin corrupted God beautiful design and spoiled everything. What was given as a blessing was perverted by sins power. Paul said that women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. The nuance of the Greek means that even the women went counter to their instinctive sexual nature and started operating opposite to the force, law and natural order of things.

All of this is a result of buying into the lie that God is not God. When we believe this then we let sin rule and reign and turn our world upside down. Continuing this way brings us to the point of not being able to recognize God's truth from the counterfeit.

God does not dictate our choices in life, however He does tell us what to choose. In Deuteronomy 30:19 it says, "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." He has given us the answer to the question so we never have to wonder, he said to choose life so that you can live.

Today, it is my prayer that you go counter to the culture and choose life. Choose God. Choose Jesus, God's way of reconciling the world back to His original plan. Chose this life and live.
