Jesus will hand over the Kingdom to God in the End (Hebrews 1:13-14)
"Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he "has put everything under his feet." Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all" ( I Corinthians 15:25-28 ).
Christ was chosen before the foundation of the world to be its savior ( I Peter 1:20 ). In the end He will hand it all back over to God, packaged, restored and redeemed. What a wonderful and awesome truth. The take away point for today is to evaluate whether or not you have confessed Christ as Lord. His superiority is evident in everything He is and has done. The time is short to make this confession and reap the benefits of it. We have this lifetime on earth to understand this amazing truth of God's grace and accept His free offer of life. Not only does this offer benefit us in the next life, but it makes this one worth living as well.
Tomorrow we look at Hebrews 2:1; Paying Attention to the Message of Jesus
The Believers Position is Also Higher than the Angels (Hebrews 1:13-14)
An amazing truth from God's word is that the believer has been elevated to a position that is far superior to the angels. At the time of salvation we were raised and seated with the Lord Jesus in Heaven. "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus" ( Ephesians 2:6-7 ). This is a past tense event. We are raised and seated with Him in Heaven. Our citizenship is in heaven, this is where we are and where we belong. Many of us look to the time when our physical bodies will be reunited, but the reality is that our spirits our united already and we are seated in heaven with Christ Jesus.
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory" ( Colossians 3:1-4 ). These verses give us wonderful insight to living the Christian life. We live like who we are: co-heirs with Christ raised and seated with Him, focused on heavenly things.
In light of these truths we see that the believer also has a position of authority superior to angels. In fact, today's passage in Hebrews shows one of their purposes. "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?" ( Hebrews 1:13-14 ). Angels are sent by God to render service to believers. This does not mean that each one of us has a guardian angel watching over us as popular folklore would say. But it does mean that they are available to us to help us when needed. God uses them in a variety of ways, and seeing how they are sent to serve and help us, shows us our importance in God's eyes.
Tomorrow we look at Part 3: Jesus will Hand over the Kingdom to God in the End.
Everyone Confesses Jesus is Lord (Hebrews 1:13-14)
"To which of the angels did God ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"( Hebrews 1:13-14 )
The entire first chapter of Hebrews compares the greatness and superiority of Jesus with the angels. We gain understanding into the glory and majesty of Christ when we use this comparison, because everything about Him is superior. His name, His title, His rank and His position as Son. The work that He has done, speaks for itself. His creative power and His redemptive work have earned Him the preeminent spot in the Universe. In fact the angels are there to worship and serve Him.
Everyone Confesses Christ as Lord
A time will come when everyone will confess Christ's lordship to His face. Currently, He is seated at the right hand of the Father waiting for that day. The day when His enemies will be made a footstool for His feet. No one will escape this confession after looking upon Jesus. His awesomeness will be unmistakable.
This confession will be demanded because of the glory due Him as savior of the world. "And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" ( Philippians 2:8-11 ). This confession will bring glory to God as He is pleased with Jesus and the work that He did.
The amazing thing about this is that because of His grace we have the opportunity to confess His Lordship now. As believers, this is what we do when we call on His name for salvation. "if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame" ( Romans 10:9-11 ). We have been given a choice. We can confess His Lordship now and escape the coming wrath of rejecting Jesus and gain the eternal life He offers. Or we can wait until it is too late and receive the punishment for refusing the Savior and His gift of grace and gain an eternity without Him.
By His position of authority at the right hand of the Father and the confession that will be made by everyone, it proves Jesus' superiority to the Angels.
Over the next three days we will look at Hebrews 1:13-14, looking at Jesus’ eternal position and the believer’s position of authority over angels.
Tomorrow we look at Part 2: The Believers Position is also higher than the Angels.
